Sunrise on Oros

Good Friday, April 13th 2012. We met at 6am at the start of the path which leads to Mount Oros in cooperation with the EPOS group :ανάβαση. Vassilis had the idea when they met at the Petrino after the “Anitsaio – Sfendouri- Oros” walk.
He said: “Every Good Friday I get up early while it is still dark, and climb up Oros to light a candle in the little chapel of the Ascension up there and watch the sunrise. Are you coming?” We went.
There was a big group of us and we arrived at the summit just before sunrise, we lit our candles and enjoyed watching the circle of the sun climb in the sky as we saw the shadow of the mountain disappear into the clouds below our feet. We learned about archeological finds at the site and kept the path in use. On the return journey we marked the pathway for future climbers.
Friday the 13th turned out to be a very lucky day for us!
