On Thursday 12th September at 20.00, the Association of Active Citizens in collaboration with the Aegina Municipality and the Aiginaia magazine, organises an event to honour the great Swiss philhellene Gabriel Evnardo, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his death (1775-1863). The event will take place at the courtyard of the Cathedral, next to the Evnardio building which was the first public educational institution of the new Greek state, built with money from the Swiss donor during the premiership of Ioannis Capodistrias. The subjects to be discussed will be the relationship between Evnardo and Capodistrias, a friendship and collaboration which was important both for Switzerland and Greece; the understanding of educational issues and their mutual vision, such as the role Evnardo played in the foundation of the National Bank of Greece. Garbriel Evnardo was already honoured last February by the University of Geneva with days of events organised by the Greek-Swiss Jean Gabriel Evnard Association. Another even is scheduled to take place in Corfu at the end of September. The Swiss Ambassador in Athens is actively involved, and supports all these events in Greece.
